Although the first day of Chinese Year (Chu Yi) took place on the 16th Jan, 2018, the celestial swift that signifies the change of the old "Tai Sui" to the new will take place on the 4th Feb, 2018. During this period, many people have reported to me certain significant changes in their lives. This is common, as the "Tai Sui" in the year 2018 will bring about new interaction with each individual's birth chart.

Tai Sui is being referred to as Grand Duke Jupiter or Grand Commander of the Year. The role of the Tai Sui is rotated annually and he has command over all other deities except the Jade Emperor. The Tai Sui has always been misunderstood as a punisher giving problems such as mishaps and disastrous consequences. In actual fact, the Tai Sui is the divine deity taking charge of the world's general affairs for the particular year. The heaven sends Him to look after mishaps and disastrous happenings and provide protection.

Possessing immense authority and power, he is the deity whom none will dare offend, in fear of diversity. A person's bliss, health, luck and misfortune are all under the care of Him. It actually serves as a reminder to avoid misdeeds, to take good care of health and to involve in more benevolent activities and to avoid offending the Tai Sui so that misfortune will not strike. He will note the good deeds and misdeeds of people.

The lunar calendar is organized into a series of twelve "earthly branches" which rotate according to the five elements. The result is a sixty year cycle. It is believed that sixty Grand Commanders are assigned to command each year, and each with their own characteristics, temperaments, abilities, etc., to rule the years of the 60-year cycle.

The Tai Sui governs the 24 Divisional cycles and the chinese 12 two-hourly period per day throughout the year. Each Tai Sui will take turns to take on the Heavenly Divine One role on 4th February (start of spring) every year. Therefore, it is customary that families across the world will usually throng the Tai Sui temples to offer prayers near to the 4th February.

It is also worth taking note that another important date to be remembered is the generalized birthday of all Tai Sui, which is the 19th day of 7th lunar month. Those who have not offered prayer to the Tai Sui in the beginning of the year (first month of spring) and those who had forgotten to express gratitude to the previous Tai Sui at the end of the previous year can take advantage of this day to pay respect to the Tai Sui.

Some masters like to relate Tai Sui to astronomical studies of how the Jupiter planet orbits one day for every 12 years the earth orbits, passing by each horoscope every year. There are magnetic and energy fields for each stellar object, and since Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, it brings great impact on our planet Earth.

Jupiter is the biggest planet among the 9 planets in our solar system. Jupiter is made from gases comprising of hydrogen and helium. Because it is 11 times larger than planet earth, as it moved about, it creates interfering waves that exerts magnetic fields onto planet earth. Astrologists divide its path into twelve sectors, starting from the west to the east. Therefore, these masters believe that the basis of Tai Sui is related to the orbit of Jupiter. The Jupiter moves anticlockwise from west to east, and astronomers invented an imaginary orbit that moves the other way round from east to west to take positions and is called Star of Sui (Jupiter). That is how the name Grand Duke "Jupiter" came about.

From a Bazi perspective, each birth chart comprised of 4 pillars. The change of "Tai Sui" (Grand Dude Jupiter) each year will create a form of catalytic reaction to any one of our 4 earthly branches within the chart. For example, in the year 2018, of the "Wu Xu", which is metaphorically represented by the animal "Dog", it will clashes with anyone's chart that has the earthly branch"Chen" or metaphorically represented by the "Dragon". At the same time, there are also other catalytic reactions like "Xin" (conflicts or tortures). Those with a weak Daymaster of the "Earth Element" or "Metal Element" are very likely to be able to be benefited by the yearly "Tai Sui" in 2018, whilst, those who are of the weak Daymaster of the "Wood" or "Water" are likely to experience destructive effects such as difficulty in work, relationship or obstacles toward wealth accumulation (birth charts must always be analysed as a whole instead of just the yearly pillar alone, which is a common point of misconception made by people who do not have formal education in astrological studies). Lastly. those born of the "Fire Element" may see mixed results depending on whether the "Tai Sui Xu" will combine with earthly stem like "Mao" to form a fire combination to strengthen the Daymaster if it is weak, or combining with "Yao" and "Shen" to form a metal combination, that will serve as wealth and balances the strength of a strong Daymaster of "Fire".

In simple words, if a birth chart is found to be in conflict with Tai Sui, it means the energy and magnetic forces of the position of Jupiter that year would bring unstable influences to people born with certain astrological birth chart pattern or arrangements. Due to these unstable forces, the people affected will experience bad luck.

Stepping into the year 2018, devotees have begun requesting for candle ritual to be performed for them to appease or pacify the "Tai Sui", and to ask for blessing or to "borrow wealth" from the Tai Sui in the year 2018. This ritual can be performed on anyone entering a new year especially during the period when the celestial swift take place, when significant changes often take place. It will help to make positive events even better, at the same time minimize problems and obstacles faced in the year new. and date of birth of each individual is required, and they will be burned together with special chanting of mantra by Ajarn Maesiteung within her temple during the Chinese New Year.

The candle ritual is performed at a cost of $80 per individual. Name and date of birth of each individual is required, and they will be burnt together with special chanting of mantra by Ajarn Maesiteung at the altar within her temple during the Chinese New Year. This will help to offer gratitude to the Tai Sui in the previous year and ask for protection, blessings and assistance from the Tai Sui in the new year 2018.

The custom of praying to Tai Sui for pardoning and to appease for favour will help us to have a smoother year ahead. Destiny is determined by one's fate, luck, Feng Shui, karmic merits and the help of Deities. With the assistance of forces above us, we are able to turn every crisis into opportunities, and bringing about happiness and blessings to our own lives and those around us.

The first round of ritual will begin on the 4th Feb, 2018. Those who subscribe after 4th Feb will have their rituals performed on other auspicious dates after 4th Feb, 2018, and we will update you on the selected dates after confirmation from Ajarn Maesi.

The burning of candle with ritual prayer is for pacifying and enshrining Tai Sui and to prevent any form of offending Him in the new year. It is also to pray through recitation of mantra to protect you against all devil, expel all inauspicious energy, and bestow blessings upon the entire family so that there will be wealth, success, health and longevity.

It is also not necessary for you to go to the temple yourself again to pray to "Tai Sui". But of course, if you prefer to go to the temple to do it again it is just as fine.

Thank you very much for your kind support!

Second round of Candle Ritual for Chinese New Year will take place on the 16 Feb, 2018. A gentle reminder to please be early in registration, as last minute registration is difficult for us to arrange properly (as always, we want to carry out each task as perfectly as possible for everyone, and sufficient time is needed for preparation. We plead for your kind understanding on this issue).

I will set 14 Feb, 2018 as the cut off time for registration. Any registration receive after that will be carried over to the next round of candle ritual, likely to take place on every 1st and 15th of the lunar month subsequently.

It is also ok to put your name and date of birth only, and dedicate merits to your entire family. If you wish to be more specific, it is encouraged to register for per individual within the family, at the cost of per individual $80.

We would also like to thank devotees who have contributed more funds on top of the $80 as a form of support in helping Ajarn Maesiteung with temple expenses. On behalf of Ajarn Maesiteung I would like to express deepest gratitude for the funds contributed for Dhamma works.

We also understand that certain participants would prefer updates to be sent to their Whatsapp/WeChat/Line, instead of being posted publicly, thus we will update all participants in private.

Thank you very much for your kind support!
