Buddha Statue Adoption for Kuman Thong (Thai: กุมารทอง) The authentic Kuman Thong originated in a practice of necromancy in Thailand. They were obtained from the desiccated fetuses of children who had died whilst still in their mothers' womb. The witch doctors were said to have the power to invoke these stillborn babies, adopt them as their children, and use them to help them in their endeavours. However, for laymen, not many have the right knowledge, mindset and experience in keeping Kuman Thong, and as a result, these enraged spirits of unborn children are often not given the necessary proper guidance to cultivate positive merits, which will lead them into better rebirths. Kuman Thong is a sentient being in spiritual form which will also be subjected to feeling such as suffering and pain in their consciousness, especially if they are under the keeping of people with immoral intention and improper methods. There are essentially two kinds of Kuman Thong, the first is the moral type commonly made by today's guru monks who have the ability to bring fortune and good luck to the owner. These Kuman Thongs are not evil spirits as they have been blessed and accepted a vow given by the monks who made them. Their entire objective is to respect and give a helping hand to their owner (adopted parents). Do not use Kuman Thong to do bad thing. Remember that you'll have to pay back more than you received. Do more good deeds, get more good karma. However certain practitioners of the magical arts are known to have created variations specifically for evil purposes. One is wild, ferocious and can destroy enemy, and the other is able to add charm and bring fortune. The first kind of Guman Thong is a ferocious type. As far as we know there are four types namely: Kuman Thong Pretkong, Kuman Thong Pretmun, Kuman Thong Pretdub, and Kuman Thong Pretsoon. As a group they are often referred to as Pret Puti Ngan or Kuman Thong Pretprab. These types of Kuman Thong are usually made by inviting spirits of those individuals who have died in unnatural circumstances to inhabit the statue. Each of the four different types has its own evil way in which it is used. Kuman Thong Pretkong and Kuman Thong Pretmun are used to protect property, often by violent means which has been known to result in serious injury or even death. The only known protection against Kuman Thong Pretmun is thought to be "Wua Thanoo", wood used to carry corpses. Fortunately this type of Kuman Thong is only effective within its own sphere. Kuman Thong Pretmun, however can exercise its power outside of that sphere, and is immune to most talismans. Kuman Thong Pretdub is known to be particularly lethal and is thought to be cold blooded killer. Unbelievably people today still dabble in the magical arts, something we seriously recommend you to avoid. Mainly use for those Kuman Thong are people dying of unnatural deaths. Because of that, some become wandering souls and unlikely to be reborn again unless they are chanted by high noble monks to rest their soul. Therefore, the keeping of Kuman Thong is not something one should take part in in a casual or superficial way. On the other hand, Kuman Thong will follow the owner's heart. If the owner is “evil” the Kuman Thong will become like oneself, if the owner's heart is “kind”, the Kuman Thong will be good and try to earn enough merits to untangle their past karma by helping their owner in order to get a chance to be reborn again. Therefore, cultivation of good character, right spiritual development and positive merits on the part of the owner is just as important! However, many people in this modern age invited Kuman Thong, not even knowing which type they are, or what they are getting themselves into. The methods of invitation is also without proper ritual, prayer, blessing and guidance by noble monks in the temple, rather, the process of acquiring them are often through the internet or shops selling amulets. Advices from monks or ajarns are not given, and very often, advices given by some dealers are questionable. At the same time, the internet, in which many devotees turned to for information nowadays, are filled with opinions from people who are not trained and most of the time, information uploaded onto the internet are nothing more than fantasy created by others' wildest imaginations and guesses. This is extremely dangerous, and will only ends in more Kuman Thong turning into wandering ghosts, enraged, in pains and anguish, not able to reincarnate, at the same time causing more and more people committing ignorant acts and accumulating negative karma unknowingly. As a result, many people got into worsening life situations and some even committed suicide after inviting Kuman Thong into their lives. The worst part is not dying, it is when your negative karma still follows you even when you are in your afterlife. Today, a great merit has been made by a devotee who has chosen to make a special request to carry out "Buddha Statue Adoption" for his Kuman Thong. As Kuman Thong is a sentient being in spiritual form, and needs guidance towards the cultivation of positive merits, Abbot Phra Ku Aroon has accepted this special request, and made prayers for the spirit of this unborn child. It is our hope that he will find peace and guidance in the Lord Buddha, untangled himself from karmic debts and be able to reincarnate into better rebirth. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu!
