    Ways to liberate lives

We can head to the centre to donate any amount, where the event of liberating lives will be carried out monthly by the centre.

    Or

We can ask someone who go there often to do it on our behalf

Even if we don't have the means to donate, $2 will still be affordable right?

And even if we can't afford a cent, we can rejoice in the donation done by others as it also means that the merits accrued to that person will be ours too! This is called 随喜功德

    I have registered

I have registered myself and my loved ones for the life liberating event on 24th Feb Sunday. The organisation is still opened today at this moment, maybe until 7pm, so you can call them to book a bus seat.

Meet up is 8.30am at 19-B Lor. Bachok (Geylang Lor. 19). Buddhist Life Mission.

Not sure whether i can take pictures or not to share.

The life liberating event is a monthly event. For this time round, it's going to be held at Semabawang SAF yacht club area, so it's going to be releasing the fishes back to the sea.

Dress code: non-revealing upper attire i.e. T-shirts, Bermudas around knee cap length, sunglasses, umbrella, slippers or scandals as it will be at the shoreline area.

Question: Have i taken part in their animal liberation activity before?

Question: For the purchase of the animals, do they preorder with the vendors or just purchase on the day itself?

    阿弥陀佛,

i have not taken part in their animal liberation activity before.

i also didn't ask them about the above questions. What i know is that if i donate the money out, i already benefited a lot. And if i participate in their activity next Sunday, the merits will even be greater :)

As a person cultivating in the way of the Buddha, if compassion is lacking, there can be no wisdom at all. And gradually as one gain more and more compassion by liberating lives, wisdom shines itself with everlasting radiance.

I am from the West. I have been trying to learn Dhamma and its practices for a number of years. I have a lingering question and have been asked the question by others and I have no definitive answer. The question is, "If one gains merit from releasing living beings such as birds and fish, why capture them in the first place? They were already free."

Would one not have more merit for leaving them free?

I hope that this does not upset anyone for being asked, but I am quite ignorant of much of the ways of these beliefs.:boink:

Yes, but the person who captured them is not the person releasing them.
You will gain merits if saving a being from being held in a prison and under the threat of death.
You will not gain merits imprisoning and then releasing a being.
