Singaporeans dress inappropriately when going temples....
Hi,
there were many occasions when I saw our local women (not trying to be sexist, sorry) wearing very short denim shorts / low cut spaghettis when paying respects to Lord Buddha in the main hall and receiving blessings from the resident monk in the founder's room (there were signs showing the proper dress code) I will expect replies like "respect comes from the heart / the monk should not be disturbed by such attires etc etc...", but in my opinion it just shows whether the person is bothered to dress appropriately to show respect. My wife was told to get out from the Ubosot of Wat Bowon by the caretaker, when she was actually wearing a LONG dress, just that it was sleeveless. Call me old fashioned or what, but I think SG temples should have such practice. |
